Why Study Latin?*
Days: Thursdays, October 14 - November 18
Time: 8:30 - 10:00 AM
Place: Board Room
Instructor: James Kreydt
Tuition: $25.00 for enrollment
$5.00 for walk-ins
Why study Latin? Refresh your language skills, find out where the English
language came from, learn how much we rely on Latin in our everyday
conversation. Some people use Latin to dress up their English, and others use
Latin to confuse us. What do doctors and lawyers mean when discussing your body
or your lawsuit? How do we read those Super Bowl numbers or those years on
tombstones? You will find out how easy it is to learn other languages once you
are introduced to Latin. The course will also offer a comprehensive look at the
History of Rome.
The recommended text book, Latin for Dummies, will be on sale in the College
office for $20.00
Jim Kreydt received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and his master’s in
classical languages from St. Bonaventure University. He taught Latin, Greek, and
English in public schools in New York and Connecticut. After moving to New York
City, he worked in publishing.
* Class enrollment is limited to 12 due to space limitations.
