The primary goal of this course will be to introduce to the student the basics
of simple, conversational German language skills. An additional feature will be
discussions of a variety of German cultural and historical highlights during the
language learning process. This will be accomplished by the instructor taking
the class on an imaginary tour of Germany while teaching the language skills
necessary to interact with the various environments and cultural opportunities
during the journey. This imaginary trip itinerary will include the Bavarian
Alps, the Rhine River castles, the old medieval towns on the Romantic Road, the
tradition-steeped Heidelberg University, as well as the modern cities of Munich,
Berlin and Cologne.
No previous knowledge of German is required for this course.
Ursula Ponder holds RN and RD degrees from Wurzburg University in Germany and a
BA double major in American History and German Literature from the University of
Texas. She has taught and conducted tutorials in German language and literature
to various student levels.
